A tribute to Dr. Willy Lens

Dr. Willy Lens, born on December 10th, 1943, passed away on August 29th, 2014. With his passing, the motivation community has lost a seminal member, a mentor, and a friend. Dr. Lens – a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science and Founding Fellow of the American Educational Research Association – made fundamental contributions to the study of motivation both through his own work and through his caring and thoughtful mentorship of a large community of scholars. With this tribute, we want to honor Dr. Willy Lens’ significance to psychology and education as well as his positive influence, both personally and professionally, on the lives of dozens of scholars. With his contagious enthusiasm and caring mentorship, Willy was an example for our academic community and with this tribute we express our gratitude for the privilege to have collaborated with him

WILLY WONKA’S SCHIZOTYPAL PERSONALITY DISORDER IN ROALD DAHL’S CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY

This study analyse Willy Wonka’s schizotypal personality disorder in Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Schizotypal personality disorder are subtype from personality disorder that characterized by peculiar,eccentric in thinking and style, difficult in interaction in social and close relationship. This study concern to analyse Willy Wonka character and his schizotypal personality disorder. Dahl describe the character as support character that have prominent personality. The aims of this study is to reveal the schizotypal personality disorder that depicted in Willy Wonka’s character. The first objective of this study is to identify the schizotypal personality disorder that depicted in in Willy Wonka’s character. Then, the second objective of this study is to identify the impact of schizotypal personality disorder in Willy Wonka’s character toward his life and people around him. This study use theory of personality disorder and theory of schizotypal personality disorder by Theodore Millon to reveal the depicted and the impact of schizotypal personality disorder in Willy Wonka’s character from the novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The method use qualitative method and critical interpretation to analyse the data. The result shows that Willy Wonka has schizotypal personality disorder symptom in his personality and behaviour, for instance, Willy Wonka tends to eccentric and odd in his style and his act, Willy Wonka has odd style thinking and speech, Willy Wonka are paranoid person and uncomfortable in social situation. There are some impact that caused by Willy Wonka’s schizotypal personality disorder, for instance his behaviour and personality hard to understand and seems too odd. Wonka make people around him feel conscious and dejected with his behaviour. Penelitian ini menganalisis gangguan kepribadian schizotypal Willy Wonka dalam novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Gangguan kepribadian schizotypal adalah subtipe dari gangguan kepribadian yang ditandai dengan kepribadian aneh, eksentrik dalam berpikir, sulit dalam interaksi dalam hubungan sosial dan tertutup. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis karakter Willy Wonka dan gangguan kepribadian schizotypalnya. Roald Dahl menggambarkan karakter Willy Wonka sebagai karakter pendukung yang memiliki kepribadian menonjol.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkapkan gangguan kepribadian schizotypal yang tergambar dalam diri Willy Wonka. Tujuan pertama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi gangguan kepribadian schizotypal yang digambarkan dalam karakter Willy Wonka. Kemudian, tujuan kedua dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi dampak gangguan kepribadian schizotypal dalam karakter Willy Wonka terhadap kehidupan dan orang-orang di sekitarnya. Mewujudkan Metode Akting Stanislavski dalam Lakon Matinya Pedagang Keliling (Death Of Salesman) Karya Arthur Miller

Pemeranan tokoh Willy Loman dalam lakon Matinya Pedagang Keliling atau Death of Salesman karya Arthur Miller merupakan bentuk penciptaan seni peran yang dilakukan oleh  pemeran. Perwujudan pemeranan tokoh Willy Loman dimulai dengan analisis lakon Matinya Pedagang Keliling. Pendekatan akting presentasi digunakan sebagai rujukan untuk mengaplikasikan tokoh Willy ke atas pangung. Pendekatan presentasi adalah proses dimana aktor menentukan lebih dahulu tindakan-tindakan yang dilakukan karakter yang dimainkannya seutuhnya baik secara pengalaman empiris dan juga secara fisik. Secara alamiah dia masuk dalam si tokoh dan melakukannya di atas panggung. Metode akting yang digunakan adalah metode akting Stanislavsky.Melalui tokoh Willy Loman, pemeran ingin memberikan sindiran terhadap penonton, dimana etos kerja dan nilai-nilai moral pada generasi muda sudah mulai hilang. Hal inilah yang digambarkan dengan jelas melalui tokoh Willy Loman, karena Willy juga pernah selingkuh, padahal ia memiliki seorang istri yang setia. Tokoh Willy juga memberikan nilai-nilai moral, seperti perlunya keteladanan, kerja keras, dan jujur dalam bekerja. Lakon Matinya Pedagang Keliling memberikan contoh tragedi yang dapat terjadi terlalu ambisius, kemandekan kreatifitas dan inivasi dalam berbisnis, bahaya modernitas serta persaingan bisnis maupun ekonomi.

A Psychological Reading of Husband-Wife Relationship in Death of a Salesman

Death of a Salesman written by Arthur Miller premiered in 1949 to critical acclaim and commercial success. Scholars have been paying attention to research on the female characters, the protagonist from the psychological perspective and father-son relationship, none of these works deals with the husband-wife relationship in Death of a Salesman from a psychological aspect.The paper will examine the family competences of Linda and Willy, dissecting the husband-wife relationship combing the psychological motivation. In the first section, through psychological rejuvenation, Linda embodies a natural force of vigor that infuses in Willy the power of warmth. In the psychological interpretation of Death of a Salesman, the relationship between Willy and Linda formed a sharp contrast between psychological pressure and purifying salvation. Willy suffered from relational anxiety, fearful stress, repressive daily, the loss of body, which brought disaster to his wife, Linda, his sons, Biff and Happy. For this reason, the play arranged a comforting character, his wife, Linda, to contrast the relationship between the couple. Concerning the suppressive daily, Willy’s stubborn personality is linked with frustration and depression in pursuing fantasy; his wife, Linda, gives him warm comfort for his empty dreams with her kindness, love, and above all, intelligence. In the case of his sons, Biff and Happy, especially Biff, on whom Willy places high expectations, Linda saved Willy from the relational tension through her pure nature when the sons frustrate Willy; Linda supports Willy and solves the arguments between Willy and sons to ease the tension. When Willy is faced with an unbearable blow from his job, Linda gives him advice on how to solve problems, such as when Willy loses his job, and the wife advises him to understand the boss and how to deal with the problem. The loneness from family and work also leads Willy to have affairs with an unknown woman; Linda tolerates everything and invisibly reminds Willy. It can be said that the relationship between the wife and her husband is a relationship of dependency, the wife attached to her husband in life and emotion
